Forrester defines Adaptive Process Orchestration (APO) as platforms that combine classic rule-based workflows with agent-driven logic to manage complex, cross-system processes and automate operational decisions. The goal is not to completely replace existing structures, but rather to intelligently extend them and integrate them into a unified, transparent framework.
According to Forrester, the benefits for companies are twofold: First, significantly more complex processes can be automated than before because departmental and system boundaries are overcome. Second, APO helps to consolidate existing and overlapping automation landscapes, clarify responsibilities, and ensure holistic control over operational processes.
