Intrexx and QuinScape facilitate digital accessibility

Digital accessibility is everyone’s business – implement it successfully

Press release no. 05-2021
Sooner or later, hardly anyone who offers their services on the Internet will be able to get around digital accessibility. And that’s a good thing. As a certified testing body, the Intrexx partner QuinScape supports step-by-step implementation of accessibility on the Internet.

Freiburg, June 24, 2021. Article 3 of the Basic Law states unequivocally: “No person shall be disfavored because of disability.” This not only applies to the analog world – no one should encounter barriers due to limitations or disabilities on the Internet either. Since September 23, 2018, EU Directive EU-2016/2102 has been in force, obliging almost the entire public sector in Germany and the EU to make its digital offerings accessible. Added to this is the European Accessibility Act (EAA), which also obliges e-commerce and banking services to offer accessible online services.

Competent support for step-by-step implementation

The low-code development platform Intrexx is an ideal basis for tailor-made digital portals that meet the highest requirements and standards. Implementing digital accessibility is another example of how companies and institutions can benefit from low-code technology.

“We work with our low-code platform Intrexx to make our customers fit for the diverse, current requirements. Digital accessibility is a particularly important one of these. That’s why we are proud to have such a competent partner in this area in QuinScape,” , says Katrin Beuthner, Managing Director of United Planet GmbH.

The Intrexx partner QuinScape GmbH is an officially recognized testing body for digital accessibility and helps Intrexx customers with the practical implementation. QuinScape has been working successfully with the low-code Intrexx platform for years to create simple and intuitive digital offerings for a wide variety of use cases.

The expertise gained from these many years of experience makes QuinScape a competent partner in accessible information technology. Well-known institutions such as the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia, the state government of Bavaria, and the German Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety have already made their online offerings accessible with QuinScape’s support.

Christoph Gesting, accredited examiner for accessible IT at QuinScape, emphasizes: “The ‘design for all’ approach should look at the needs of everyone and accept people with disabilities as a normal part of society. And this is not about the one blind wheelchair user but about different target groups with different needs, reaching to software ergonomics or usability. We are very pleased to be able to share our expertise with all Intrexx customers and partners and to work together to get the topic of digital accessibility off to a good start.”

Where is the best way to start?

The first step is to raise awareness of the issue among those responsible in the management and IT. Here, QuinScape provides support with tailored training courses and workshops where sensitive points are identified and next steps are defined.

Subsequently, the identified points have to be implemented technically in the development phase. QuinScape offers support here as well: During development, certified experts perform tests and check the code with regard to the Federal Ordinance on Barrier-Free Information Technology (BITV). Both before and after the test, the Intrexx partner is also available for consultation.

Once development is complete, a so-called delta test is performed. If this is successful, the provider receives a seal that officially confirms accessibility in accordance with BITV. The final test report can be published together with the accessibility declaration (optimized for the respective federal state).

GKV benefits from an accessible intranet

With the help of QuinScape, the German National Association of Statutory Health Insurers (GKV) designed an accessible intranet based on the low-code platform Intrexx. GKV Communications Manager Florian Lanz is thrilled with the result: “With QuinScape on our side, we have made our new intranet a reality that is functionally state-of-the-art while also meeting the highest standards of design and accessibility.”
