  • Internal communication

  • Digital medical technology

  • Quality management

The Challenge

The merger of the three hospital locations in Aalen, Ellwangen, and Schwäbisch Gmünd in 2017 presented the Ostalb Clinics with significant challenges: The need for an integrated information and exchange platform became evident in order to enable cross-site exchange and access to relevant data.

The existing solutions lacked adaptability and prevented efficient, cross-site communication. The clinics had to rely on inflexible standard software, which resulted in a lack of connectivity.

The Solution

By implementing Intrexx, the hospital network was able to develop a customized solution that not only standardized communication channels but also created a central and flexible information and exchange platform for all locations.

Intrexx enables over 3,000 employees to quickly and efficiently access critical data and resources, improves internal communication and optimizes medical and administrative processes through custom intranet applications.

Intrexx provides the foundation for the digitalization of our clinical processes – flexible, accessible, transparent and user-oriented.

Information and Communication Portal

Connecting departments, employees, and clinic locations.

The implementation of Intrexx enabled the rapid development of a cross-site communication and information platform.

The platform integrates various areas, including a cross-departmental intranet, medical technology, and quality management, and provides applications such as document management, a phone directory, news feeds, and a cafeteria menu for all employees.

Furthermore, central reporting and notification systems were successfully integrated, including a technical helpdesk, space and resource planning, accident reporting, internal notification systems, and medical planning systems.

Use case in focus: Medical technology

Every aspect of the Low-Code portal could be precisely tailored to the needs and processes of the hospitals. The medical technology sector is an excellent example of this.

Several applications were developed using Intrexx to support the hospitals in their daily operations and compliance implementation:

Repair and Maintenance Reporting System

The central ticket system allows staff to send orders directly to external service providers and check the status of a report at any time.

Documentation of Medical Device Training

The application has all training-required devices registered and documents mandatory training for clinic personnel. Both completed and pending training sessions can be tracked.

Transfusion Reaction Reporting System

The application enables transfusion reactions to be reported in accordance with legal requirements. The central system is accessible to all 3 locations and supports the documentation and evaluation of incidents.

System Launch in Just 3 Months

The project demonstrated impressive results in terms of speed and efficiency. The clinics were able to train their own employees in a short time, thanks to the Intrexx Academy and the intuitive Low-Code principle.

Subsequently, they were able to develop the portal independently with Intrexx – completely autonomous and independent of external and expensive service providers.

The initial rollout of the system was achieved within 3 months. In the following quarter, additional relevant and now heavily used applications were developed and published.
